SN AGRIP Company

AGRiP : 75 years of history

AGRiP is a French brand of tractors that is universally recognised in the forestry sector. Its founder, Maurice Duprat – an ingenious man with a passion for mechanics – devoted his entire life to manufacturing tractors. His tractors embodied his values. The values he cherished, and loved to share with others include the quest for knowledge, the satisfaction that comes with a job well done, organisation, and respect for others.

Maurice Duprat was the son of a farmer. He was born on 17 September 1908, in the small village of Arcomps in the Berry region in central France. By all accounts he was highly intelligent and harboured a passion for mechanics. He began his career in a mechanical workshop run by one Mr Mahiet, and eventually took over the business in 1930.

In 1950, he filed a patent for a four-wheel drive-four-wheel steering tractor, with a three-point suspension system. It was the first AGRiP ARD15 tractor. As he could not compete with the agricultural tractors marketed by recognised manufacturers, he sought to gain a competitive edge by manufacturing an AGRiP tractor that came in 3 versions, i.e. a forestry version, a skidder version and a loader version.

Between 1950 and 1982, Maurice Duprat manufactured more than 3,000 AGRiP tractors at his factory in Lignières.

From 1950 to 1960, he developed the range by introducing the ARD15, ARD20, ARD30, and ARD40 MODELS.

In 1960, he decided to increase the power of his tractors’ engines, and introduced the 75-horsepower ARD60, the flagship of the AGRiP brand.

From 1982 to 1990, 300 tractors were manufactured at the new factory in Lignières.

AGRIP Technology

The long-term success of an industrial enterprise is highly dependent on the technology it employs, the quality of its manufactured products, and its ability to innovate to adapt to changes in its market.

In 1950, Maurice Duprat had the opportunity to validate his applied research on agricultural machinery. Using U.S. Army surplus axles and components left behind after the war, he designed the first four-wheel drive-four-wheel steering agricultural tractor, which was the first ARD15 tractor. Maurice Duprat filed his first patent, in which he described the characteristics of a diesel-powered, four-wheel drive-four-wheel steering AGRiP tractor, featuring a three-point suspension system on the front axle.

The 4-wheel drive system meant that the tractor had a small tuning radius, thereby facilitating its manoeuvrability. The engine’s power, coupled with the traction provided by the four drive wheels, ensured optimal performance on all terrains. A four-wheel drive tractor has another advantage in that the weight of the vehicle is evenly distributed on the ground, which facilitates operating the tractor on terrains with low load-bearing capacities.

Missions

How we are beneficial to existing and future customers

AGRIP today

SN AGRIP manufactures forestry tractors and cable pullers. We also provide maintenance and reconditioning services for the machinery and equipment that we manufacture, as well as for other brands of machinery and equipment.

These services are provided at our historical site in Lignières (France), and on-site at our customers’ premises across France.

Even though AGRIP stopped mass producing machinery more than 30 years ago, many of our machines are still being used today by our customers.

In December 2021, AGRIP was saved from shutting down completely by a group of French investors who were firmly convinced that they could save the AGRiP brand, find new areas for growth, and perpetuate our remarkable industrial success story. One of the objectives of their project is to continue to create jobs in the Cher region with a view to revitalising the commune of Lignières. To take on these challenges and achieve our ambitions, we are currently working on a major industrial-transformation project.
